Granite is one of the hardest, most resilient natural stones on earth, which is why it has been the preferred choice for grave monuments since the 1930s. However, even granite is vulnerable to the elements. Decades of exposure to acid rain, hard water sprinkler spray, sap, bird droppings, and industrial pollutants cause a chemical buildup known as oxidation. This buildup leaves a cloudy, dull, white haze over the stone's surface, fading its vibrant colors and making inscriptions difficult to read.
At Sacred Ground Care, we offer a specialized granite polishing and sealing system designed to restore the mirror-like depth of polished red, grey, and black granite without damaging the surrounding unpolished carvings.
💎 Who Is This For?
This service is designed specifically for newer or middle-aged granite monuments that originally possessed a high-gloss polished finish. Older marble and limestone monuments are porous sedimentary rocks and should never be polished, as their surfaces are too fragile for mechanical buffing.
Our Granite Restoration Process
We use a specialized, non-abrasive chemical and physical restoration technique:
- Step 1: Scale Extraction: We apply a safe, non-acidic mineral deposit remover to dissolve hard water scale, sap, and bird droppings.
- Step 2: Micro-Buffing: Utilizing specialized, hand-held, low-RPM buffers and ultra-fine polishing pads, we gently buff the surface of the granite to bring back its original high-gloss sheen.
- Step 3: Breathable Sealing: We apply an optional premium, deep-penetrating breathable sealant. This fills the microscopic pores, protecting the stone from water absorption, acid rain, and UV damage for 1 to 2 years.
